Praise for Babylon Gate, and other tracks from Floyd's debut self-titled
EP Floyd Thursby (2005):
'Lyrics from Bob Dylan's new
album? No, from Floyd Thursby's debut self-titled 5-track CD. Go
see him and hear for yourself. A powerful new addition to Australia's
most original singer/songwriters.' Billy Pinnell, music
journalist, June 2006
'Striking voice and strong lyrics.'
John Watson, management: Silverchair, Missy Higgins, Silverchair,
Wolfmother, May 2006

track is the impressive Babylon Gate. Thursby whittles his own version
of the classic country-style epic of bloodshed and revenge.'
Daniel Corbett, Beat, 11 May 2005
'Babylon
Gate is one of the best songs, lyrically, that I've heard all year.'
Claire Stuchbery, PBS FM, August 2005
'Genius.' Fee Bee-Squared,
Breakfasters, RRR, September 2005
Melbourne singer/songwriter Floyd Thursby plays original
acoustic folk and alt-country tunes from the dark side of the soul.
Raised by a poet and a children's author, Floyd has been writing
and playing his unique style of music since his childhood.
Thursby's evocative songs shows his love of the classic song-writing
skills of Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Johnny Cash, and as composer for
well-respected film music ensemble the Ang Fang Quartet, he has also
been influenced by the Quartet's Eastern European rhythms and melodies.
Floyd has supported many of Melbourne's best musicians including
the Black-Eyed Susans, Dave Graney, Sime Nugent, Those Bloody McKennas
and Marcel Borrack, and has played at most of Melbourne's live music
venues including the Espy, the Empress, the Rob Roy, the Corner Hotel
and the Cornish Arms. Floyd Thursby performs solo or with his band
the Definite Article, featuring bassist Mark Hilton and drummer Richard
Wilson.
Thursby's self-titled debut EP was recorded with funding from Arts Victoria
and is available at Polyester Records (387 Brunswick St, Fitzroy,
Ph: 9419 4961) for $12, or at gigs for $10.
